  • Eowyn | Motherhood Session

  • Documenting Motherhood, at any stage, is a passion of mine.
As a photographer, Kandyce shares that passion with me.
and as mother of three herself, she knows all too well how quickly time passes.
So when she asked me to come and document her time with her third sweet babe,
    I jumped at the opportunity.
Kandyce offers her families these gorgeous ‘Milk Bath’ sessions, and asked if I would do one for her.
So after we spent some time snuggling the ‘men’ in her life, it was just us girls.
Eowyn stole my heart to say the least,
and I was grateful in between shots to sneak in a few snuggles myself.
    Kandyce bravely opened herself up
and allowed me to photograph intimate and sacred moments
    between her and her daughter,
    in the most beautiful way.
    I was truly honoured.

    Thank you Kandyce.

  • The Year of Self Acceptance | 52 Self Portraits

  • I want to tell you why I started doing this.
After 2 years of photographing my family daily,
it became very clear that there was one thing missing from our photographic memories….
    Me.
And although my postpartum body wasn’t interested in being photographed,
I knew that years from now my children would look at these beautiful memories I gave to them
and only have ‘selfies’ of me with them to remember me by.
When a handful of photographers from the Dear Photographer community started this little project I jumped on board.

I underestimated how hard it would be.
I underestimated the effect it would have on me.

I knew, because the self portraits were intertwined in the 365 project, that I wanted them to be mostly moments WITH my children.
    Also, truthfully, its easier.
Me, myself and allll of my body issues were happiest hiding behind the smiles of my children.

It was about half way through this project that I had a moment of clarity.
After years of waking every morning HATING my body.
After years of those thoughts consuming my days…
    Affecting my relationships…
and sucking the joy out of my life…
It was with these photographs that I discovered the beauty within my own skin.

On July 27, the anniversary of my sobriety, I photographed myself in a bikini.

It was one of the most empowering moments of my life.

And this photograph not only speaks to me as a mother and as a woman,
but to my children it shows them such power in loving yourself.
While for years I hid, and pushed their hands away from my soft stomach,

    Now I celebrate it.

It is my hope that it teaches them the importance of acceptance and love for everyone,
    but most importantly within themselves.

So what started as a gift to my children, ended up being the greatest gift to myself.

Here are my 52 self portraits of 2017,
    A year of self acceptance.

// Today a collection of talented woman from the p52radness group are sharing our self portraits together.

    ENJOY! //

  • Brittany & Ian | Lifestyle Maternity

  • Ive been really excited to finally meet Brittany and Ian.
We have many mutual friends and grew up in the same area,
but until now, have never crossed paths!
Exceeding all of my expectations for how wonderful they are,
I fell in love with their carefree nature and excitement
for the journey they are about the embark on.

Their Maternity session was taken beside the sea they love,
spending most of their free time aboard their sailboat,
it seemed most fitting and completely prefect.

While we wait on the call that a baby is on its way…
a few of my favourites from our session!

  • Morning with the Eastman Family | Documentary Session

  • Heather wanted something authentic to them.
And so I suggested that I come over, and just spend the morning with them.
She told me I could come in my PJ’s, that they would all still be in theirs.

    How wonderful.

There is a certain sense of vulnerability with these kinds of sessions.
And even she didn’t really know what this would look like.
I knew…because I can see it as its happening.
In showing her and Kory the sneak peeks from our session a few days later
she told me that they were perfect.
That they made her fall in love with her boys all over again.
Can’t say that I blame her,
the boys, all of  them, including Kory…are wonderful.
    And capturing their sweet personalities
in the home that the love and are growing up in,
    was a dream.

One day, when she is gone, her family will have theses images,
tangible memories of her as a mother, them together as a family
and a little window into how blessed they are.
Totally ordinary moments, filled with love and adventure.

The moments of our everyday become the map of who we are.
To me they are the most important things to document.
And what we treasure most in our hearts.

I hope you enjoy my morning with the Eastman Family.
    I sure did.
And I cant wait to come back again next year.

  • A Morning with Theo | Documentary Family

  • Meet Theo.
    Actually….fall in love with Theo.
    I sure did.
It was about this time last year that I visited their home.
There was a long awaited baby in her belly
and I spent my time with them
documenting them together, before they became parents.
How excited was I to get an email inviting me to come back!
This time..to photograph a happy, smiling gorgeous little boy.

This session brings such a huge smile to my face.
It encompasses for me every inch of the love a parent has for their child.
Little Theo is thriving in the love that surrounds him,
    that is clear to see.
One of the most amazing things to witness and even more to be able to capture it,
here are some of my very favourite images of my
    morning with Theo.

  • The Bates Family | Lifestyle Family

  • I met the completely adorable Bates Family at one of my favourite local spots.
As Felina said, the walkway would be perfect for containing
‘active’ toddlers and the bird sighting are always a great distraction.
The beautiful, rich fall colours and textures surrounding us
were the perfect backdrop against this beautiful, fun family.
    Oscar and Leila were perfect,
tolerating me, my camera and my antics during nap and snack times
which is asking a lot from such sweet little people.
    (and big people too! lol)

It was hard to narrow down some favourites,
    I loved them all,
But here are some that pulled at my heart.

  • Stephanie | Lifestyle Maternity

  • I met Stephanie, Ryan and little Hannah at the Ocean side.
The family had just settled in after a cross country move from Saskatchewan.
Even just the thought of having her maternity photos near the ocean
was so exciting for all of them.
Hannah spent most of her time throwing rocks into water,
    as toddler do.
In just a short while, she will become a big sister,
and I get to go visit the family in their new home once they get settled in.

I have loved getting to know them,
and look forward to many more of our sessions together
as they navigate parenthood with two beautiful girls and
    the wonderful ‘island life’.

  • The Tromp Family | Ashley Marston Photography

  • Over 4 years I have watched this beautiful family grow.
I started photographing Yui and Mike the day they got married,
and now, here we are, two beautiful children later.
Every time I photograph them I enjoy our visit.
I love getting to see the kids grow and I ‘think’ Rebecca may be warming up to me 😉
How lucky am I to be the one to capture them year after year.

I know these photographs will make their way to Japan,
and so I hope that her family enjoys seeing the beautiful love filled life
that she has here in Canada.

Here are some of my favourite of the Tromp Family!

  • The Worrall Family

  • Ive been close to Aylas’ Story from the day she was born.
Not only have I been friends with her mom for 15 years,
But each year I have documented her life with the people she loves.
A wonderful circle of people that love, care for and nurture her
as she navigates life with cerebral palsy.

What I love most about Ayla is her tenacity. That, she gets from her mom.
Her cheekiness comes from her dad
and her wonderful heart comes from the outpouring of love and patience
that comes her way both in her home and every where she goes,
    and from everyone she meets.
Because her smile and personality is infectious, and as my son Tate says
    “Everybody Loves Ayla”

    ….and he’s right.

  • Rosie | Lifestyle Newborn

  • When shooting, editing and blogging this adorable newborn session,
Im fairly certain that a smile never left my face.
This family is as sweet and funny as they are adorable,
and if I didn’t have to go home to my own kids,
I could have just as happily moved myself in for the week
to share in the laugher, toddler conversations and baby snuggles.

Little Rosie is about the sweetest thing you ever did see.
Her easy going nature and big bright eyes fit right in here.

I was so happy and honoured to come over to celebrate her arrival.

So incredibly hard to choose favourites…
So prepare for an over share 😉

  • Matt & Arianna | A Wedding Story

  • I remember when they started dating.
I actually remember when I decided that he was the one for her.
You see…you had to be really great.
I mean…really great to be good enough for ‘our Arianna’
She was not only our niece, but a big part of our lives as a nanny to our children.

I guess you might say I became a bit protective over her…
    He won me over quickly.
Maybe it was the way he just fit in,
how he ‘wanted’ to come over to be with my kids…
Or maybe, it was that I could see that he really loved her.
    He was completely hers.

    The day was perfect.
I spent time behind the lens wiping tears away,
as my sweet niece put on her dress,
walked down the isle and married the man who adored her.

I cried just as much editing these as I did on the day of the wedding.
A day filled with love, laughter and music.
    There is nothing better.

Thank you Arianna and Matt for allowing me to capture such an amazing day…

Here are just a few moments that I thought you would love.

    Aunty Ash
    xxoo

  • Siena | Lifestyle Newborn

  • Sweet Darling Siena is here.
    Perfectly Planned and loved,
her beautiful story started in Southern France.
When Ken and Megan arrived home
from their vacation to find out they were indeed pregnant,
    they were thrilled.
I had the pleasure of photographing them while Megan was expecting,
and so I was looking forward to meeting this sweet little girl once she had settled in at home.
